The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Responds to Domestic Violence Call and Makes Arrest

On 2-1-22, at approximately 6:22 pm, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) Patrol units responded to the 7-11 Store on Tillman Lane in the Gardnerville Ranchos to meet with a female who claimed to be the victim of domestic violence.  Upon arrival, the deputies learned that the victim had been beaten by Michael Jacobsen, a 35-year-old Gardnerville Ranchos resident.  The deputies learned that the victim had been beaten by Jacobsen a number of times over the past several days.

It was determined that earlier that evening, Jacobsen had beaten the victim’s head against a desk, kicked her in the ribs while she was on the ground, and held a knife to her throat telling her that if she called the police, he would kill her.  The victim was transported to the Carson Valley Medical Center where it was determined that the victim had a concussion and a laceration to her head.

Patrol units responded to Jacobsen’s residence in the 700 block of Wagon Drive to contact him.  Jacobsen refused to come out of this house to meet with the deputies.  A search warrant was secured to enter the residence to arrest Jacobsen, and to search for evidence of the crime.

Due to Jacobsen’s extensive violent criminal history and due to the severity of the battery against the victim, the DCSO Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) was activated to execute the search warrant and arrest Jacobsen.

While the search warrant was being obtained and SWAT was mobilizing, the Patrol units on scene at Jacobsen’s home gave Jacobsen numerous verbal commands via a loudspeaker to come out of his house and surrender.

When SWAT arrived at Jacobsen’s home, SWAT gave Jacobsen one final verbal warning to come out of his house and surrender.  When that verbal warning was ignored, SWAT deployed tear gas into the house.  Jacobsen still refused to come out of his house.  SWAT then explosively breached the front door of the residence and deployed a K9 into the home.

The K9 did not locate Jacobsen, so SWAT entered the home and found Jacobsen hiding in the crawl space under the house.  Jacobsen was arrested and booked into the Minden Jail for Domestic Battery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Felony Coercion, and Obstructing a Peace Officer.  Jacobsen’s bail was set at $25,000.
