Volunteer Programs
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is very fortunate to be augmented by a large pool of civilian volunteers. Our volunteers assist with a myriad of duties, all are listed below in each program description. Approximately sixty additional volunteers work in our substations and as support staff in the main office.
Our volunteers have donated over 62,000 hours of service to the Sheriff's Office. Calculating the national average worth of volunteer work, our dedicated volunteers have saved our county in excess of $1,022,000.00. We are thankful for these individuals who have assumed a position of responsibility through their actions of service.

The Posse may participate in ceremonial rides, parades, and assist with crowd and traffic control, search and rescue assistance, and any other function where the use of trained horses and riders may be requested by the Sheriff's Office. Reserve Deputies
For more information contact Sergeant W. Lynch at (775) 782-9931 or [email protected]
The Primary mission of the Reserve Deputy Sheriff program is to supplement law enforcement functions at the division level of the department. Reserve Deputy Sheriffs, while on duty, are regarded by the department, and the community, as equal in authority and responsibility with regular deputies and as such are required to meet the same expectations. The Reserve Deputy Sheriff Program is encompassed by community members who volunteer their time and energy to fulfill many of the roles which are traditionally handled by full-time Deputy Sheriffs. Our Reserve Deputy Sheriffs undergo the same hiring standards as full-time Deputies and work alongside them in support of every aspect of the Department operations.
