Minden/Stateline, NV- The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is restarting their Neighborhood Watch program.
Crime prevention starts at home. Neighborhood Watch is about the prevention, detection, and reporting of crimes and suspicious activities. It is based on neighbors watching each other's property as well as public property, and reporting occurrences or persons that appear suspicious.
Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program combining the proactive efforts of residents and representatives from the Sheriff’s Office.
Any neighborhood can join and lead a Neighborhood Watch program. It works by gathering groups of neighbors together to share information on things occurring in their neighborhood via email, social media, and group meetings. The Sheriff’s Office is involved and provides updated statistics which are neighborhood specific, answers safety questions, and keeps an open direct line of communication between the neighborhoods and law enforcement.
DCSO invites all current Neighborhood Watch programs and any neighborhoods who are wishing to start a Neighborhood Watch program specific to their area, to contact Citizen Patrol Officer John Alexander.
