Douglas County Sheriff's Office Partners with Douglas County School District to Conduct Active Shooter Training
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with the Douglas County School District to conduct active shooter and close quarter battle training. This week, each Deputy will receive training on how to respond to an active shooter incident. The training is designed to give each Deputy the tools he/she needs to respond and confront an active shooter to stop the incident.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has conducted this training since 2000, shortly after the Columbine School Shooting.
“Our partnership with the School District is so important,” said Sheriff Dan Coverley. “I can’t thank Superintendent Keith Lewis enough for allowing us to train at the schools so we are prepared and familiar with them in the event of an active shooter incident. I hope and pray we never have a shooting in our schools, but I am confident we are prepared should it happen.”
An active shooter incident can occur anytime and anywhere; it is not just limited to schools. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is committed to continually train for the worst-case scenario, no matter what it might be.
