Posted on 12/15/2025

MINDEN, Nev. (Dec. 15, 2025) — As New Year’s Eve approaches, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is focused on ensuring public safety remains the top priority as residents and visitors ring in 2026. The Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone celebrating in Douglas County and the Stateline area to be safe, plan ahead and be responsible.

Travel and Traffic Advisory
Large crowds are expected for New Year’s Eve celebrations in the South Lake Tahoe casino corridor. Increased pedestrian activity along U.S. Highway 50 will likely result in traffic delays. The 25-mph speed limit in the casino corridor will be strictly enforced. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, remain alert and remember that drinking and driving is never acceptable.

Enhanced Law Enforcement Presence
To support public safety efforts, DCSO will work in coordination with multiple partner agencies, including the Nevada State Police, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Highway Patrol. Additional resources will be provided by Douglas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, the Douglas County Communications Center, Tahoe-Douglas Fire Protection District, Caltrans, and the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Public Safety Expectations
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is committed to protecting lives and property while maintaining a safe environment for all. Prohibited behaviors include excessive disorderly conduct, fighting or throwing objects, vandalism or theft, narcotics violations, public intoxication, possession or discharge of fireworks and underage possession or consumption of alcohol or drugs.

Event and Area Restrictions
From Dec. 31, 2025, through Jan. 1, 2026, glass and metal containers are prohibited within the Stateline casino area. Any prohibited containers will be confiscated and destroyed. Visitors are encouraged to use plastic or paper containers for beverages. Alcohol served by casinos will be provided in plastic cups.

Pedestrian Safety
Pedestrians are urged to use caution when walking in Stateline and South Lake Tahoe, particularly when crossing the roadways. Deputies will be actively monitoring pedestrian and vehicle traffic to enhance safety. Use sidewalks whenever possible, cross streets only at designated crosswalks, and moderate alcohol consumption.

Youth Safety and Curfew Enforcement
Parents and guardians are reminded to closely supervise minors during New Year’s Eve celebrations, especially in crowded areas. The casino corridor is not intended for youth. Douglas County’s curfew for individuals under 18 is 12 a.m. Dec. 31, 2025. Curfew violations may result in citations. Individuals under 21 found in possession of alcohol or under the influence of drugs or alcohol are subject to arrest.

Celebrate Responsibly
DCSO urges everyone to plan ahead and celebrate responsibly. Deputies will be actively watching for impaired drivers throughout the evening. If you plan to drink, arrange a safe ride home by designating a sober driver or using taxi or rideshare services. Suspected drunk drivers should be reported immediately by calling 9-1-1.
