MINDEN, Nevada (April 9, 2025)––April is designated as National Donate Life Month, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) continues to raise awareness about the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation here in Douglas County and across Nevada.
“It’s truly rewarding to see the positive impact the Nevada Donor Network has made in our community,” said Sheriff Dan Coverley. “This program connects generous donors with recipients in need, offering hope and life-saving resources. I’m proud that DCSO is helping to champion this vital cause.”
In addition to promoting the importance of donor registration, the Sheriff’s Office is encouraging residents to register as an organ donor through the Nevada DMV at https://dmv.nv.gov/dlorgan.htm. Registering through this site ensures inclusion in the national registry, allowing individuals to remain registered even if they move out of state.
According to the Nevada Donor Network, as of March 15, 2025, there are 1,569,547 Nevadans in the Nevada State Donor Registry (source: Statline) and 62,829 Nevadans in the Donate Life National Registry for a total of 1,628,817 registered Nevadans. There are approximately 666 Nevadans awaiting transplants, along with over 104,575 people nationwide on the transplant waitlist.
The potential impact of just one donor means more than one life is saved:
- 1 organ donor can save up to 8 lives
- 1 tissue donor can heal up to 75 people
Added Sheriff Coverley, “The need for more donors is evident. Even if you are already registered through the DMV, we encourage you to reaffirm or update your registration. Together, we can help save lives—one registration at a time.”
